A Living Manual for Inner Transformation

Not believers. Knowers.

The gospel words of Jesus — every recorded one — gathered into one volume and set apart from twenty centuries of commentary, so they can be met directly as the instructions for inner awakening he insisted they were.

From Surredd

A note to whoever
just walked in.

Hello, and thank you for coming. I spent a long time with one uncomfortable question, and it would not leave me alone: what is the difference between believing in Jesus and believing him? Between admiring the man, and doing what he actually said?

This book is what came of it. Every recorded word, gathered and set apart, so nothing stands between you and them. The inner chamber. The single eye. The kingdom within. The greater works.

I am not asking anyone to trade the faith they have for a theory. I am asking a question, and then getting out of the way so he can answer it himself.

Have a look around. If it is for you, you will know within a page or two.

— Surredd

The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo, here! or, There! for lo, the kingdom of God is within you.

Luke 17:20–21 · ASV 1901

Millions have believed in him. Far fewer have believed him — taken what he said, in specific and repeatable and uncomfortable terms, and done it. That is not a creed. That is an instruction set, and this book treats it as one — a Jesus-centered call to real-life revival, worked out from the inside.

Inside the Book

622 passages
  • The Kingdom Is at HandNot a coming event on a calendar. A present reality.
  • The Seventy & the SamaritanSent out with nothing; they came back astonished.
  • The Inner TempleShut the door. A method, not a metaphor.
  • Knowing in ActionFaith as a verb.
  • The Stone Rolled from the InsideThe tomb was not opened from without.
  • Come Up HigherThe closing challenge, and what it asks you to name.

Three internal volumes, bound as one book: Matthew & Mark; Luke & John; Acts and Revelation. Reflection stations close every book — the pen is part of the practice.

Why the translations changed

The recovered texts in this edition now use Mark Mattison's translations, which he placed in the public domain. In a book about his words, it matters that none of the words are borrowed on someone else's terms.

On the name

Earlier drafts led with Yeshua HaMashiach throughout. I have pulled most of it back. The ones who know that name will find it, and I would rather not set a wall in front of someone who would otherwise pick the book up.

Ye are gods

They took up stones to kill him, and he answered out of their own law. I still do not think most of us have sat with that sentence long enough to feel what it costs.

The Chamber

Read one

Draw one of his sentences and sit with it. This is the practice the whole book is built on, and you can start it right now, for nothing.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thine inner chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret.

He gave a location, not a mood. When did you last go in on purpose?

This is not a call to religion. It is a call to examination. A call to responsibility. A call to embodiment.

The red letters remain. The question is whether we are willing to live them.
